What are the Qualities of an Effective Leader?
What are the Qualities of an Effective Leader? Humankind never had a general public that didn't have a pioneer or a main gathering. Pioneers were offered capacity to choose the destiny of their nations or associations. Since forever, researchers and antiquarians applauded extraordinary pioneers, and cruelly blasted inept ones. Incredible pioneers carried their country to thriving and request, while awkward pioneers drove the country to ruins and caused their kin to endure and bite the dust. All pioneers, in the end, arrived at a purpose; I will make my nation prosperous. There were numerous extraordinary masterminds who called attention to what the characteristics of a decent pioneer who can acquire success and request the general public, and some of them repudiated each other in the most exceptional manner. Nonetheless, characteristics of an incredible/viable pioneer are appeal that can control people groups mind at ones will, mental solidness that can control ones own feelings, capacity to draw out the best from the apparently most unhelpful assets, keen aptitude that can identify reality, and splendor of both psyche and body with fundamental brutality and devilishness. At the end of the day, the best head ought to be about great or heartless sooner or later. Control of the human psyche is, I accept, the most significant nature of a successful pioneer. The meaning of control is equivalent to control. Nonetheless, who truly needs to be controlled when they have their own through and through freedom? That is the reason, a control of an incredible pioneer is control without limitation, yet control with through and through freedom. As a pioneer, one should continually check whether his gathering of individuals are under his impact. Obviously, more often than not, position gives an individual colossal impact over the individuals of the gathering, similar to the pope or a military head. The pope, the pioneer of the Roman Catholic Church, had an incredible impact over the solid backers of Catholicism until the finish of Renaissance Europe. Military pioneers, then again, are equipped for beginning an uprising without anyone else. One general principle that applies in the military is basic: follow beyond a shadow of a doubt. This gives them the po sition to control individuals with no troubles, yet we don't call them viable pioneers in light of the fact that their impact can make generous harm the general public. The control of a viable pioneer isn't constrained, yet willful. The instance of the popes is constrained on the grounds that the supporters religion expects them to help the pope when in the midst of hardship, and besides, if a few backers don't coordinate, this gathering of non-strict individuals will be segregated from the network of pioneers and lose what impact they had. In this way, it isn't totally willful yet for the most part constrained. A powerful pioneer can cause individuals to do what the person in question needs them to manage without instructing them to do so in light of the fact that the enthusiasm of the individuals lie corresponding with that of the pioneer. A compelling pioneers individuals do what they feel fundamental for them to do, without realizing that the pioneer liked them to move in as suc h, much the same as how Lao tzu depicted a decent pioneer. A reasonable model is Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin. As indicated by the Record of the Great student of history, otherwise called Shiji(㠥â ⠲㠨⠨ëÅ"), by Sima Qian, in spite of the fact that Li Shimin picked up his seat through an improper mean, he later made his country prosperous that in any event, when a significant property fell on the ground, nobody tried to get them imagining that somebody may have lost it in unknowingly. Additionally, when there were fiascoes that overwhelmed an entire city, individuals, without taking requests from anybody, went out to help in the modifying procedure. This was in reality the very thing that Li Shimin needed to witness and his notoriety has enabled him to control individuals without questioning that it will cause them ruin. Some may inquire as to why control is the key component for a compelling pioneer. Would it not resemble playing god? Is it not that equivalent to controlling individuals with flattering, or baiting kids with confections? To be sure, it may appear as though playing god, however intensity of god is route past the capacities of people. The god in this setting isn't really god from the book of scriptures, however a heavenly being with tremendous forces to make, control, and crush humankind. One of his forces can be portrayed as imperceptible string that treats people like manikins, though controls done by a pioneer resembles an agreement that empowers each other to act, however for an extensive stretch of time. Divine beings power makes men work like his manikin, a doll that can be controlled with his undetectable hand, broken, and overlooked. On the off chance that an individual An is viewed as controllable, brittle, and forgettable by someone else B, at that point it implies that this individual An isn't an equivalent of individual B, yet individual A turns into a second rate of individual B. There are no man that can do such thing for they neither have the ability to totally control another people mind nor have the pitilessness to treat everybody, including their family, as lesser than themselves. That is the confinement of individuals contrasted with the capacity of a divine being. Presently, if this isn't authentic in any way, it appears drawing youngsters with desserts. To this announcement, I should ask; does it truly? Is it a give and take process? In the event that control was to be sure a give and take process, that would expect one to lose a thing and addition something different. In examination with the given thought, the pioneer must offer something to the individuals and win something, and the individuals should pick up something and lose something. In this manipulative procedure, no side loses anything on the grounds that the idea of torment of losin g a belonging is non-existent for this situation. Normally, a reality that all human can concur on is the accompanying articulation, on the off chance that one loses their ownership, the person feels torment for the misfortune. In rationale, when one proclamation, If P, at that point Q is valid, at that point its reversal, If not P then not Q, of its transformation, If not Q then not P, turns out to be valid, which is additionally called a contraposition. Considering the past articulation valid, rationale expresses that its contraposition, in the event that one doesn't feel torment for misfortune, one didn't lose anything, turns out to be valid. Thusly, neither one of the sides lost anything to one another. Consider how two sweethearts give each other endowments and supports. On the off chance that one side needs something, another will happily give it knowing very well that the provider won't advantage a ton. There is no agony of losing a belonging in this circumstance, and besides , the supplier won't state he has lost anything. Insightful expertise is a follow up of control of individuals. Keen expertise alludes to a capacity to see reality and to comprehend an issue, object, and others with extraordinary fitness. Individuals with this expertise are likely move nearer to the embodiment of the issue. A pioneer needs this on the grounds that the capacity to distinguish the embodiment of the issue will undoubtedly give a pioneer an excellent situation to begin the activity. On the off chance that the issue is obscure, there can be no arrangement by any means. Moreover, if the issue is misjudged, it is exceptionally likely that one will never arrive at most proper response to the issue. The instance of Edward Blackbeard Teach can show that discerning expertise is one of the nature of a decent pioneer. He comprehended that telling an armada required a man with something beyond savage power. The issue was the means by which to get a solid hold on the intrigue and confidence of his teams and skippers. He, regardle ss of being a privateer, was clear enough to get the consideration of his group by following their feelings. In the event that their suppositions appeared to be reasonable enough, he thought about them. Likewise, he had a scary body fabricate and face; and he didn't slaughter or cause hurt on his prisoners, yet developed a feeling of dread in them, making the story to be misrepresented and abstain from battling however much as could reasonably be expected, and loot absent really any battling. In any event, during his battle, he generally appended moderate consuming exhaust to his hair and facial hair to give his adversaries and teams a devilish picture. This privateer chief made progress generally from his capacity to see the issue with the directing a gathering of individuals. His comprehension of the working of human psyche made him an embodiment of privateers during his period. Another significant nature of a viable pioneer is mental security in any circumstance, which means regardless of whether somebody was fiercely killed before the person in question, the individual in question can keep up his away from of the real world and give levelheaded choices for the issue. There is an adage in Korea which says, Even on the off chance that one is in a tigers jaw, get the psyche right, one can endure. This implies regardless of any condition, in the event that one can stay rational, the individual can conquer those conditions. Along these lines, control of feeling is pivotal. For example, if a pioneer happens to run over an episode where his kin have played with him, he will shape resentment upon those individuals despite the fact that he realizes that he ought not. The resentment will continue amassing over the long haul, and pioneer will in the end discharge it with his allowed power. This could be decimating for the nation. A model wherein a pioneer flopped by no control of feeling is Yeonsangun of Joseon Dynasty. As indicated by the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty , this ruler had no persistence at all, and at whatever point he was irate, he would slaughter his subjects decisively. This prompted the disappointment of the residents and different authorities, both degenerate and honest. The outcome was an uprising that had harmed the nation for a significant stretch of time. Uncontrolled feeling drives everybody, including the pioneer himself, to demolish. Control of feeling, or keeping up the strength of ones psyche is significant. Another pivotal part of being a pioneer is his capacity to settle on choices that will bring the best result out of any conditions. Envision a stock representative who is responsible for appropriating his customers cash to purchase the stocks to carry them more cash to and thus procure remuneration. This requires a ton of exploring and dynamic most importantly. With a similar given assets, a slight change can cause a specific organization to develop b

Refugee Displacement and Identity: Finding Home :: Essays Papers
Outcast Displacement and Identity: Finding Home While escaping oppression, winning trust and welcome in an outside land relies upon the importance of the name of removal. As indicated by Daniel, the creation of present day outcast character relies on the correct language fastened to your franticness, and right translation of this urgency by ground-breaking specialists; demonstrating current personality can be a dangerous game. Present day personality frequently comes to fruition in the mixing of lines that werenââ¬â¢t expected to mix. Regardless of how coded or upheld, names never hold all of oneââ¬â¢s character set up. The lines bouncing the character of the outcast are controlled by the UN, and direct an arrangement of qualities unfamiliar to many would-be displaced people. For the Tamil mother from Sri Lanka, singular status as a displaced person doesn't bode well; she is associated with the bones of her child and the dirt wherein they lie in Canada (Daniel 278). Terms of uniqueness are relative in the social comprehension of many dislodged people groups: aggregate personality in family structure supercedes that directed by Western country states, however the contention for shelter relies on perception of Western worth frameworks. At the point when lines of personality definitely mix, relative law must be worked out. Lines make barring circles and techniques for barring individuals from haven; our universal network partitions into unwanted and welcome countries. As talk, social personality implies deciphering convictions and sentiments starting with one culture then onto the next. During the time spent interpretation, a screen of social qualities channels comprehension of the qualities and experience of the ââ¬Å"other.â⬠The basic word ââ¬Å"refugeeâ⬠brings out pictures and stories specific to an all in all characterized personality, conjuring ââ¬Å"an picture of the radicalized otherâ⬠(Daniel 272). Analysis Of Van Gogh s Starry Night - 1202 Words
Van Gogh painted this piece in 1889 while he was in Saint Rà ©my seeking treatment in a mental asylum. Interestingly enough, he painted this piece from his memory and it was supposed to have been based on a constellation arrangement he had seen earlier on in the night sky of Provence. Starry Night is perhaps one of his most famous and yet most elusive works. The first thing that I noticed was the overwhelming night sky, which takes up most of the background. Its swirling, flowing lines appear to be swishing across the background in this gentle, wavy motion and seem to be merging at the centre to form this spiral-like formation. Eleven fiery yellow stars that look like huge fireballs illuminate this whole piece and contrast with the cool blue, fluid night sky that takes on an amazing variety of shades of blue and grey. There is also the crescent moon at the top right hand corner that radiates a more orange, brighter light from the rest of the stars. The view of the night sky and village is partially blocked by this huge cypress bush in the foreground. It has this writhing quality to it and its black green colouring stands out to the rest of the relatively pastel piece. The houses are tiny and inconspicuously painted in the bottom right corner of the painting and blend in quite well with the forest and mountains. The architecture of the vi llage is quaint and simple and no light illuminates the village, giving the impression that everyone there is probably asleep. In his biography of Americas founding father and first president, George Washington: The Patriot President, author William M. Thayer describes the heroic acts of leadership that Washington displayed while fighting in the American Revolution and during his two terms as President. Using a personal style that appeals to young readers, Thayer provides many glimpses into the private life of George Washington that give a better impression of the man behind one of historys most legendary figures. By tracing the path of Washingtons incredible life, from his childhood farm on Mount Vernon to his participation in the French and Indian War of 1754, the author successfully recreates the key events in Washingtons development. The book is filled with tales of Washingtons bravery on the battlefield, his natural ability to lead men during both war and peace, and his fierce sense of patriotism in the face of British aggression. After reading George Washington: The Patriot President the lesson that gr eatness is earned through hard work and determination is made clear. George Washingtons life began with his birth in 1732, to Augustine Washington and Mary Ball Washington, British immigrants who were living in the newly founded American colony of Virginia. He had a total of nine siblings, including a pair of older half-brothers, and the large Washington family worked their way up from the gentry class of common farmers to become wealthy landowners. Barriers to Effective Planning free essay sample
Effective planning requires a thorough knowledge of both present conditions and future goals. Because these things are not always entirely knowable, and because most situations are constantly changing, planning can be a very challenging process. In companies and organizations, planning is usually undertaken by groups, a fact that increases the complexity of the task. Poor Communication The planning process is complicated when communication within or between groups is poor. Insufficient communication of tactics, plans and priorities leads to replication of effort and people working at cross purposes when they should be working together. Poor communication may be caused by undeveloped skills, rivalries, misunderstanding of the planning process or excessive complexity within the planning group structure. Resistance The difficulties of the planning process are not always the result of accident or incompetence. Not infrequently, people who are going to be affected by change dont like the idea and resist it. Resistance to planning for change within organizations can take the form of malingering, undermining of morale or straightforward opposition. We will write a custom essay sample on Barriers to Effective Planning or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Contingency plans to accommodate resistance should be included in any comprehensive planning process. Insufficient Resources If plans become excessively ambitious, they can sometimes by stymied be a simple lack of resources on the part of a company or organization. This is particularly true if the planning involves physical plant renovation or expansion. Grand plans are much less expensive to create on paper than in bricks and mortar, and planners can easily lose track of the eventual cost of their plans. Unknowable Future No matter how thorough a planning process is, the future always holds surprises. Planners who forget this fact tend to create excessively detailed and specific plans, and then have these plans compromised by unexpected events or changing conditions. Well laid plans for a company expansion or a new product line may be torpedoed by an unexpected economic crash. Lack of Creative Thinking The human mind tends to base its thoughts, activities and expectations on what has happened in the past. Often, this is a valuable trait, but in a planning process it can become a liability. If planning requires the development of new ways of doing things, an inability to overcome the past on the part of the planners can become a liability that obstructs innovative thought. Inertia Inertia is most frequently a problem for large and long-established organizations. Inertia can be created by a combination of archaic infrastructure, calcified modes of thinking, oversize bureaucracy and fear of change. Forward thinking elements within an organization that want to engage in creative planning may have to spend a lot of time and energy overcoming the inertia of things that have gone before.

U.S. Involvement In Nicaragua Essays - Nicaraguan Revolution
U.S. Involvement in Nicaragua U.S. Involvement in Nicaragua Not very many Americans know the truth that lies beneath the U.S.' involvement in Nicaragua. Most would be surprised to find out that U.S. armed forces and politicians violated U.S. laws and deliberately sabotaged Nicaragua's stable government by paying the dictator's henchmen to kill Nicaraguan citizens. The United States is considered one of the major superpower nations in this world. It is highly influential to other countries and often takes responsibility to intervene with other another country's problems?especially when it deals with the spreading of communism. When Nicaragua's dictatorship was overthrown by the popular Sandinistas, a communist regime was successfully put in place. The U.S. immediately feared that Nicaragua's surrounding countries would eventually become communist due to the Domino Theory. The negative impact of becoming further engaged in the Nicaraguan politics was destructive to both the U.S. and Nicaragua. These actions destabilized the Nicaraguan economy, encouraged civil violence, and motivated members of the American government to violate certain laws to continue their aid to the guerillas. To fully comprehend the negative impacts of U.S. intervention in Nicaragua, one must be somewhat familiar with Nicaragua's history. The period in which the Somoza family ruled Nicaragua started on New Year's Day in 1937, when Anastasio Somoza Garcia had himself elected president. The Somozas ran Nicaragua as their own private estate; "...all three Somozas were dictators who ran the affairs of their country to their personal benefit and against the interests of the vast majority of their countrymen" (Walker 16). Under their dominion, life for the Nicaraguan citizens was harsh, because they suffered from abject poverty. They lived in inadequate housing, ate and dressed poorly, and were overall extremely oppressed by their leaders' corruption. When the people finally realized that life wasn't going to get any better, they decided to turn to their only other option, the communist Sandinista government. The U.S. were so anti-Communist that they began to send large sums of money to Somoza's Guardsmen (who the leaders of the Contras) in order to sabotage the Sandinista government. One of the goals the U.S. would like to achieve when dealing with Third World nations is to help them become more industrialized and economically stable. Unfortunately, the opposite of this occurred in Nicaragua. Before U.S. involvement, Nicaragua's economy was reasonably sturdy in the sense that there was a consistent flow of money in and out of the country. "With increasing investment in Nicaragua, as a result of the Alliance for Progress, and the Central American Common Market, this was a period of unprecedented progress" (Pastor, 35). It is obvious that stronger nations would not invest their time and money into a country that was economically declining, thus displaying that at this time, Nicaragua was doing quite well for a Third World nation. With the correct equipment and help from richer nations, Nicaragua could have benefited from the high quality of its land and resources, which would raise the citizen's yearly income and help with overcoming destitution. U.S. money for the reconstruction of Managua after the incredibly huge "Christmas Earthquake" in 1972 never reached where it was most needed. Instead, Anastasio Somoza Debayle (the president of Nicaragua at the time) "transformed a tragic national loss into a personal financial gain" (Pastor, 36). Somoza's greediness enticed him to pocket the money instead of directing the funds where they were intended to go. Thus very little was done to help the disaster victims and this is just another example of how his dictatorship was oppressive to the people. This quandary could have been simply avoided if the U.S. had sent an official to manage the money and secure its proper usage. Through the 1960's, Nicaragua received from the U.S. $92.5 million in economic aid, and $11 million in military aid. From 1971 to 1976, Nicaragua received three times that amount in economic aid but less in military. (Pastor, 43) From these statistics, it seems that Nicaragua's economy is being supported by U.S. funding more each year. It is fair to say Nicaragua's economy was dependent on U.S. aid. When Somoza issued terror raids on his people, the U.S. chose to impose sanctions withdrawing all funding to Nicaragua. By advertising Somoza's acts of human brutality, the U.S. was able to persuade other countries to consider terminating their current aid to Nicaragua. Not only did Nicaraguan slip further into debt, but also the situation worsened for the poverty-stricken people. "Nicaragua's economy had failed to attain its prerevolution level in 1983. Investment had stagnated or declined, depending on the sector. The external debt, which was high at $1.5 billion in 1979, reached $3.8 billion in

Ancient Potters essays
Ancient Potters essays Our knowledge of ancient science and technology is based entirely on what we have uncovered at archeological sites. When researchers first started finding things belonging to ancient peoples, they formed ideas about how those people lived and operated in their society. As more information came to light, many ideas had to be changed. New discoveries enabled researchers to get a clearer picture of how certain areas of the ancient world practiced their trade. Many of the new discoveries had to do with pottery. There is now an abundance of information telling us about ancient potters, concerning how they produced their wares and to where these wares were sold. Apart from the progression from open fire to the use of kilns, more specific elements of the pottery process were revealed. With the use of modern technology, researchers realized that the ancient potters were not just using whatever clay was available but were using certain kinds. As the craft developed, the potters learned which clay to use for its strength and color. We now know that it is the levels of iron and calcium contained in the clay that determine these things. Also, it was discovered that, contrary to popular belief, paint was not used to illustrate the pottery. Instead, a mixture of clay and water, called a slip, was used. The slip was added before the clay was fired. To get the change in color desired, the potters (probably unaware of the chemistry involved) deprived the fire of oxygen at one point in the process and then reintroduced it. Another big discovery was the terra sigillata molds. These molds were used to mass-produce a certain kind of pottery. The pottery was called Samian ware. Samian ware was the ancient equivalent of fine china. It was all red and had a glossy shine to it. And, usually when a potter would make this stuff, he would add his trademark, his symbol. The symbol became a mark of excellence. But, even in these ancient...

Ethics in Organizational Leadership Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Ethics in Organizational Leadership - Essay Example It explains that an act is ethical if it gives beneficial gains rather than pain. Employeesââ¬â¢ acts are therefore ethical if it gives high benefit outcomes (Arnold, et al., 2013, p.89) This theory is based upon the social virtues in outlining code of conducts that regulates wrong or right and its major focus is on intrinsic worthiness that a given society share such as honesty, integrity etc. In this theory, wrong and right are judged based on the set regulations that have been formulated (Arnold, et al., 2013, p.89). The employees are therefore bound ethically to abide by the organizational/ professional rules in place. A conflict of misunderstanding would erupt if the virtues and moral baselines differ between a leader who has been socialized into different moral standards and those of the employees owing to cultural differences. The Virtual theory is based on virtues but these virtues may differ and a leader may have different moral values and virtues different from the employees. The three theories of ethics significantly differ in their baseline account for ethics but they join together in conceptualizing the communal/collective formulation of ethical standards; it is a group duty and not individual. The three differ in tracing the source of ethical

Art as a way to creatively call attention to social issues Essay
Art as a way to creatively call attention to social issues - Essay Example Evolution of technology has had positive impact on artistic values in society and in aesthetics. In his essay ââ¬Å"The Art of Collecting Light bulbs,â⬠Kimmelman (2005) exposes characteristics and qualities contained in art making such as being ubiquitous and converting uselessness into an asset. However, as Restak (2004) explains in his essay ââ¬Å"Attention Deficit: Brain Syndrome of our Era,â⬠technology serves not only as an ally but also as a distraction to our daily activities. For instance in the summer of 2003, e-mails from themobproject@yahoo.com began to circulate inviting people to convene in a public place so as to take part in a random act with the sole purpose of confusing others (Bill 2003). The first successful mob took place in New York Macy where hundreds of people entered the store in search of a ââ¬Å"love rug.â⬠After that about two hundred people flooded the lobby and mezzanine of the Hyatt hotel in synchronized applause for about fifteen seconds, and the next shoe boutique in SoHo was invaded by participants pretending to be tourists on a bus trip (Bill 2003). These activities provide the viewers with a sense of wonderment which heightens peopleââ¬â¢s curiosity and help them become aware of their surroundings. Moreover Restak states that ADD and ADHD is not actually a state of mental condition but merely a new state of cognition. Boredom arises when the brain attempts to account for incredible amounts of information available to us through technology and is simply overwhelmed. This causes the brain to develop differently in order to successfully understand everything that modern human expose themselves to, hence a way of thinking that certainly is an unprecedented change in cognition. This partially stems from multitasking which is a mechanism that humans have developed in response to suddenly having a much higher amount of distractions in comparison to just a few decades ago. Technology and modern art have

Utilitarianism Classical Utilitarianism Essay Example for Free
Utilitarianism Classical Utilitarianism Essay Classical Utilitarianism is a moral philosophy, which was developed in 19th century England by Jeremy Bentham, John Stuart Mill and Henry Sidgwick. The essential feature a utilitarian reside in, is the notion that an action is right if it produces the most amount of happiness well limiting suffering. Utilitarianism focuses solely on the consequences of the action, in an attempt to bring about the most happiness from each situation, well ensuring everybodyââ¬â¢s happiness is equally considered. A utilitarian decides each action, by calculating the overall utility (good) that will results against the overall disutility (bad) that will result from a particular action. The action with the highest total net utility will be chosen. Within Utilitarianism there is a division between the conceptions of what is perceived as good; Hedonist Utilitarianism and Preference Utilitarianism. Classical utilitarians believe in Hedonist, were pleasure or happiness is perceives as the only intrinsic good. In modern society most utilitarians believe that the concept of good refers to preferences, and that individual preference satisfaction should be maximized for example artistic creation. There is a further division between utilitarians; Act Utilitarianism and Rule Utilitarianism. Rule Utilitarianism, holds that one should always follow rules that tend to promote the general welfare of humans for example a rule might be not to killing people. Act Utilitarianism holds that one should always act to promote the general welfare. Utilitarianism is plausible firstly because general overall happiness is achieved for the greatest amount of people. Second, because of it simplicity it is easy to determine whether an action is moral or immoral. You simply have to calculate the total utility against the total disutility for each action, and chose the action that will result in the most happiness. Third, the majority of society uses Utilitarianism when they are confronted with daily decisions. For example in peak hour traffic the majority of drivers would let another driver change into their lane, because the other driver obviously needs to change lanes. The other driver is likely to gain more happiness from being let in than the potential unhappiness it will cause you by waiting a few extra second in traffic. Fourth, it is a simply way off living a moral life, were you do not necessary have to be religious to be moral in your decision-making. The strongest objection against Utilitarianism is that it cannot accommodate for moral considerations such as individuals rights and justice. This is because Utilitarianism only considers the consequence of an action. This objection is highlighted in a case concerning an innocent man whose was wrongfully convicted of a crime. In 1974, England, Gerry Conlon was falsely imprisoned, for the bombing of a pub in the town of Guilford, which killed five people. This case raises the issue that the consequences of an action should not be the only things considered when deciding which action to take. If a utilitarian was to view this case critics would argue that a utilitarian would have to conclude that even with, bad consequences resulting from convicting an innocent man, their would overall be more good consequences derived from the peace of mind gained from the loved one of the deceased, as well as the community of Guilford. Critics of Utilitarianism would argue that greater consequences would result in convicting the innocent man, therefore Utilitarianism is unable to regard the importance of justice, this philosophy must therefore be wrong. With the objection that Utilitarianism cannot accommodate for the importance of justice, a utilitarian would address this concern with the response that by choosing the action that results in the best consequences, justice will ultimately be protected. Justice will always be protected even if it is not a utilitarian ultimate purpose. In regards to Gerry Conlon case, a utilitarian would never choose to convict an innocent man of a crime he didnââ¬â¢t commit because, even if more happiness was achieved in the short run through this false conviction, in the long run more unhappiness is likely to result. In the long run the guilty man would be likely to bomb again or commit another crime, also if the liar was discovered then the situation would cause greater disutility than utility, and may result in the dispatch of the justice system, as-well as great upset for the deceased family members who thought the bomber had already been punished. Therefore even though Utilitarianism doesnââ¬â¢t accommodate the moral consideration of justice directly, greater utility will always be created from upholding the justice system. The other aspect of the objection address criticism that Utilitarianism doesnââ¬â¢t accommodating individuals rights, therefore critics believe Utilitarianism must be wrong. A utilitarian would argue that just because rights are not directly considered in relation to the consequences of an action, they do in-fact have some impact on the chosen action. With majority of the population getting happiness out of doing the right thing, rights are often protected through Utilitarianism. For the small minority of people that donââ¬â¢t experience unhappiness from disregarding human rights, the existence of the police force ensures human right are protected from these members of society. With human rights being protected under law, people rights will be upheld under Utilitarianism because there will always be a larger amount of disutility from violating the law than from the personal gains of a human right offender. For example the CEO and CFO of Tyco a New Jersey-based company stole $150 million and inflated Tyco incomes by $500 million, in doing so they violated the rights of investors. After the police discovered this fraud, the justice system penalized both, with a sentence of 8-25 years in prison with the addition of $2. 92 billion paid to Tyco Investors. Under Utilitarianism this case wouldnââ¬â¢t occur because the benefits of stealing this money would never outweigh the consequences that result from being caught for defrauding investors. Therefore even though rights are not considered in the consequence of an action, they have a strong connection with the chosen action. Word- 992.

William Shakespeares Sonnet 18
William Shakespeares Sonnet 18 is part of a group of 126 sonnets Shakespeare wrote that are addressed to a young man of great beauty and promise. In this group of sonnets, the speaker urges the young man to marry and perpetuate his virtues through children, and warns him about the destructive power of time, age, and moral weakness. Sonnet 18 focuses on the beauty of the young man, and how beauty fades, but his beauty will not because it will be remembered by everyone who reads this poem. Shakespeare starts the poem with a metaphoric question in line one asking if e should compare the man to a summers day. This asks if he should compare the beauty of a summers day to the beauty of the young man about whom Shakespeare is writing. Line two of this poem states Thou art more lovely and more temperate. Temperate is used as a synonym for moderate by the author. In line two the speaker is describing the man as more lovely and more moderate than a summers day. This emphasizes the mans beauty and how the man is viewed by the speaker. Line three, Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, tells hy the mans beauty is greater than that of a summers day. Shakespeare uses rough winds to symbolize imperfections. The speaker is implying that there are no imperfections in the young man, but there are in the summer, so the man cannot be compared to a summers day. In line four the speaker adds to this thought by saying that the summer also does not last as long as the mans beauty therefore it cannot be compared to it. Line five states another imperfection of the summer. Shakespeare uses the eye of heaven as a metaphor in this line to describe the un. In line six Shakespeare uses the phrase gold complexion dimmed to describe the sun again which means that sometimes the sun is not hot enough, and that, as said in line five, sometimes the sun is too hot. In lines seven and eight the speaker ends the complication by describing how nature is never perfect. Line nine starts the resolution of the poem by using the conjunction but.. Eternal summer in line nine is referring back to the mans eternal beauty, using summer to symbolize beauty, and saying that the mans beauty will never fail like he summers beauty. In lines ten, eleven, and twelve the speaker says that the man, When in eternal lines to time thou growst (line 12) or when he grows old, will not lose possession of what is fair to him, and Nor shall Death brag thou wanderst in his shade (line 11) or he will not be poor in health and close to dying. Lines thirteen and fourteen say that as long as this poem is read, the mans beauty will never go away, because every time someone reads the poem they will be reminded of his beauty. This poem that Shakespeare wrote, in the octave, describes how all beauty fades except for the man about whom Shakespeare is writing. The octave also tells of how great the mans beauty is compared to everything else that is beautiful. In the sestet, the poem tells about how the mans beauty stays alive and out lives all other beauty. The poem is written in iambic pentameter. Shakespeare makes use of much symbolism and many other figurative devices in this poem that contribute and emphasize to the overall theme of the poem.

Dance A Common Misconception About Dance - 1658 Words
A common misconception about dance is that you must undergo training in order to be considered proficient. This is not necessarily true though, as not every dancer dances for the sole purpose of performing or competing. In their own way, the general public can be considered dancers. How often in your life have you heard a song that has made you yearn to move? In all likelihood, a great deal of times. That movement that you execute is called dancing. Whether you choose to admit it to yourself or not, you are a dancer in your own right. Would you consider dancing to be sport? A sport by definition is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. The same as any sport commonly known today, dance, specifically competitive dance, has all elements required of a sport. People tend to twist definitions of words in order to manufacture their own activities to seem more sacred. The more people you exclude from a category, the more special you are in your own mind. Sports remain no exception, society decides what a sport is on their own terms and specifically, what they believe a sport should be. If there were fewer athletic activities considered to be a legitimate sporting event, you appear in your own mind to be a unique highly competitive athletic machine. Instant global radio, or Web radio, is the latest Essay Example For Students
Instant global radio, or Web radio, is the latest Essay manifestation of the Internets multimedia successor, the World Wide Web. Improved technology and content are turning Web radio into a mass medium. (Hickman 30) The Web radio concept is mainly underlined by the concept of Webcasting, or broadcasting station content over the Internet. Online users who visit the Web pages of Webcasting stations can find archived and live audio covering news, business, sports, and many different types of music. (Thomas 38) Although the most prominent reason for the increase in Web radio activity is advancement in related technology, there are multiple other reasons. The key has been the development of software that allows a digital recording stored on a computer to be transmitted over the Internet and played instantly and continuously as it is received by the listeners computer. (Your Very Own 516) This technique is known as streaming, and was pioneered by RealNetworks. In the streaming process, the digitized clips are sent over the Internet as a stream of compressed data packets. (OMalley 64) Free audio-player software that works with Web browsers then decompresses and assembles these packets at the users computer and automatically plays them back as they are received.Streaming systems typically use a buffering system that stores an extra few seconds worth of data to prevent Internet hiccups from disrupting the steady flow of audio not unlike the shock-protection systems on portable compact disc players. (OMalley 64)As reported in 1995, listening to broadcasts on your computer is akin to dialing in a tinny transistor radio on the fringes of rec eption area even with hotshot multimedia speakers. (Silverthorne A1) Advancements have made it so Web-based audio now offers near-CD quality, even over a modem of average speed. (Hickman 30) The broadcast quality depends largely on the amount of traffic on the Internet. (Your Very Own 516) Sites will have varying degrees of quality, and the only way to ensure pure transmission is a fast connection from a fast site. On September 5, 1995, the first broadcast of a Major League Baseball game was made over the Internet on ESPNs Web site. The next week, ABC Radio Net became the first organization to provide live Internet newscasts, with coverage of the O.J. Simpson trial. (Silverthorne A1) These early firsts by big-name network stations sparked the initial interest in Web radio, and the networks have been the biggest contributors towards the widening spectrum of quality content, as well as setting professional standards for content. In Spring of 1998, ABC Radio Network signed a deal with Real Networks to broadcast all 27 of ABCs radio stations on the Web. (Hickman 30) Despite network advancement, the sheer number of Internet-only Webcasters has helped to ensure better content, wider variety, and more Web radio usage. (Thomas 39) Where before there were difficulties with waveband congestion, access to unlimited space for Webcasters has become available through the Internet to virtually anyone, and pos itions even small alternative stations with potential to thrive alongside mainstream powerhouses. (Internet Radio 1)The biggest fans of Web radio include people who have moved away from an area and like to tune in an Internet site to check the news or sports from their previous home town. Web radio also is popular with people who have exotic musical tastes and want to sample sounds that arent available from traditional broadcasters in their area. In addition, some people like to listen to commentary, or comedy programs playing in the background as they surf other sites. (Thomas 41)Web radio, unlike the old sort, is interactive. Screens can supplement radio sound with song titles, liner notes and banner advertisements. Listeners can chat to each other, rate songs or click on a banner ad to buy a disc of the music theyve just heard all while listening to the radio. (Internet Radio 1) Many music Webcasters get payment for generating these types of music sales. Audio ads as normally run by traditional commercial stations can take up ten to fifteen minutes per hour. Audio ads on the Web usually take up a mere three minutes. This lost advertising is made up in the visual portion of the Website, and the broadcast itself suffers from little ads, leaving more room for programming. Despite the low costs and efficient advertising techniques, Web stations are still having to struggle to make money. (Internet Radio 1)Other problems surround Web radio. Webcasting stations now may face copyright difficulties. Music licensing is a complicated issue because composers, artists, record companies, and music publishers all have different rights. (Thomas 41) Many questions surrounding Web user rights are not clear either. Because of this uncertainty, it is difficult to tell if Web users can legally save audio files and play them back later, or if news from wire services such as Reuters and the Associated Press can be rebroadcast. .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d , .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d .postImageUrl , .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d , .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d:hover , .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d:visited , .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d:active { border:0!important; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d:active , .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u740739c9f010abb1a63bb19e68d3ef5d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Parts of Water Closet EssayWeb radio cannot survive in its present form.
